Beyond killing millions in sub-Saharan Africa, the AIDS pandemic has also devastated the victims' families. In Malawi, legions of widows and children have been ostracized, stigmatized, and dispossessed after a family member dies of AIDS. This brutality is often inflicted by extended family and neighbors, motivated by fear, superstition, and opportunism.
